We were able to create pinch pots this week! We were directed how to wedge, and knead the clay. We were also shown what a kiln was. This was a great way for the instructors to introduce new vocabulary to the group! Before we began we were shown a few examples and then we were instructed to brainstorm three ideas of our own. Then, we were given a small ball of clay and as a class we kneaded it together. We then created the hole or the pot portion of our creation. Next we were free to explore with the clay and create our figure. We had a few requirements such as, 2 additions, and one subtraction. We were offered the opportunity to paint our creation if we chose. For an extension activity I would have the students create leaves. The leaves could be created as pinch pots however, they would not have to be. The students could create their own leaves based on a science lesson we had just reviewed.
