Vincent Van Gogh Silhouette

For this art activity we were asked to rip tissue paper to create a night sky scene. We were able to choose any colors we wanted to fill the whole. Once the tissue paper is glued to the paper we were given a modge podge substance to put over our whole sheet of paper. Next, we cut out a silhouette of a chosen scene. The scene was then glued to the bottom of our scene. An extension activity would be to have students write a paper about their artwork. The paper would have the students explain what their inspiration for the project was.  The paper would then be displayed with their artwork.

Hidden Safari

The Hidden Safari was such a cool art project! First we were shown two jungle pictures. We were asked to describe what we saw and what was different between the two pictures. We were shown how to create our very own Ruby Red Glasses that were used later in the lesson. Next we practiced upside down drawing with small pictures. This helped us to focus on lines rather than the picture as a whole. Finally we were able to chose an animal and we practiced upside down drawing with a big picture. Our picture was drawn in a sky blue colored pencil, not pressing too hard yet not pressing too light. Finally we were instructed to use warm colors such as red, yellow and orange to draw shapes and patterns over our animal. Our final product was an animal hidden under our pattern that could only be seen by using our ruby red glasses. An extension activity would be to have the students do a research project on their animal. It would be a small project finding information such as where does the animal...

The Dot: Exploration with Materials

This was a very interactive and fun activity! I loved that the lesson opened with a book, the book was virtual so it was something different rather than read aloud by the teacher. We were able to use several different types of materials to create our very own dot.  Everyone was given two coffee filters and a variety of media to choose from. Some media included water colors, markers, crayons, and oil pastels. It was interesting to see what colors blended when water was added and those that did not change. This would be a great activity to start with at the beginning of the year. It would help explain that everyone has artistic capabilities and as the teacher we are able to help the students find their creativity. Extension Activity: After finishing this activity I would relate it to how students can still be themselves. Just like the crayons and oil pastels did on our coffee filters. Even though the marker and water colors blended together, just like some humans do with their frie...
